Western States Auto Theft Investigators (WSATI) Association, Southern
meets on the third Thursday of each odd month at 10:00 a.m. at various
locations throughout Southern California. The
Southern Chapter is a non-profit organization that is comprised of
representing law enforcement, rental car and insurance companies, and
individuals whose goal is to reduce vehicle theft.
The meetings are for auto theft investigators, insurance company special investigation agents, vehicle leasing loss prevention agents, and other individuals involved in the investigation, recovery and prevention of vehicle thefts. Investigators from in and out of Southern California attend the meetings to share information about current cases, suspects and auto theft trends. The meetings also feature a guest speaker who gives training during the course of the training meeting / luncheon format.
The Training Meetings / Luncheons begin at 10 a.m. and go until about 1 p.m. Lunch is served about 11:30 a.m. We would recommend coming about 9:30 a.m. to meet your peers and share coffee or tea.

The next WSATI Southern Chapter Training Meeting / Luncheon will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 10:00 am. The meeting will take place at the Petersen Automotive Museum, located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 (1-323-964-6331). Attendees will not be charged admission to the Museum, but there still will be a $15 per car charge for parking. It is suggested attendees carpool to this Meeting / Luncheon.The Guest Speakers will be NICB / FEAR Special Agent Lou Koven, LAPD / TRAP Detective George Molina, and LAPD / TRAP Detective Cesar Ramirez. They will be giving a presentation on Classic Car Theft Investigations.
The luncheon will be catered by Drago Ristorante, a member of the famous Drago restaurant family. All attendees are invited to tour 3 floors of the Petersen Auto Museum after lunch.
RSVPs will be necessary for this meeting's luncheon portion of the meeting. Only RSVP if you will be attending the luncheon portion of this meeting. May 17, 2018 WSATI Training Meeting / Luncheon
SCE Energy Education Center - Irwindale
2018 WSATI Southern Chapter President Jeff Enfield (LASD / TRAP) welcomed everyone to the meeting and a new WSATI venue, the SCE Energy Education Center, in Irwindale.
Jeff requested that Vice President Mick O'Neill (Hagerty Insurance SIU) lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
Jeff introduced the other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:

Associate Director Joe Starbird (Long Beach Police) and Associate Director Alan Skobin (LASD/TRAP) could not attend the meeting.

Jeff then introduced the Guest Speaker, Jonathan Birk, CEO of Juliet Bravo Solutions. Jonathan gave a presentation addressing vehicle forensics, telematics, and infotainment systems. The presentation was very enlightening and there was even more information given out during the lively question and answer segment.
Following the presentation, Jeff announced that the 2018 WSATI Training Seminar, hosted by the Northern Chapter, will take place October 8-10, 2018, at the Mont Bleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe. He said that information was posted on the WSATI website.
During the roundtable discussion, Dennis Frias (Locator Technologies / OCRA) reminded the attendees that the Orange County Auto Theft Advisory Committee Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year Awards Brunch is on May 23, 2018 in Garden Grove. He invited attendees to participate in this event recognizing the top recovery officers from each law enforcement agency in Orange County.
Webmaster Gary Labb (Santa Ana Police / OCATT [retired]) advised the attendees of the encrypted online networking roster and gave the attendees the password to allow them access to the roster.
Jeff invited those who purchased luncheon tickets to enjoy their lunch while networking with the others in the room. The attendees were able to enjoy an abundant amount of food provided.
Following the luncheon, the raffle was conducted by Mick O'Neill , with the help of Mike Carnakis, Johnny Miyasaki, and Melissa Somers. The raffle helps raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs.
There were several new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
Jeff announced the next meeting / luncheon would be held on July 19, 2018. The venue will be the Petersen Automotive Museum. The presentation will be on Classic Car Theft. RSVPs will be necessary for the luncheon portion of this meeting.
