Western States Auto Theft Investigators (WSATI) Association, Southern
meets on the third Thursday of each odd month at 10:00 a.m. at various
locations throughout Southern California. The
Southern Chapter is a non-profit organization that is comprised of
representing law enforcement, rental car and insurance companies, and
individuals whose goal is to reduce vehicle theft.
The meetings are for auto theft investigators, insurance company special investigation agents, vehicle leasing loss prevention agents, and other individuals involved in the investigation, recovery and prevention of vehicle thefts. Investigators from in and out of Southern California attend the meetings to share information about current cases, suspects and auto theft trends. The meetings also feature a guest speaker who gives training during the course of the training meeting / luncheon format.
The Training Meetings / Luncheons begin at 10 a.m. and go until about 1 p.m. Lunch is served about 11:30 a.m. We would recommend coming about 9:30 a.m. to meet your peers and share coffee or tea.

The next WSATI Southern Chapter Training Meeting / Luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 10:00 am. The meeting will take place at SPY Optic Sunglasses & Goggles - Hamot Hall, 1896 Rutherford Road, Carlsbad, CA 92008 (760-804-8420).The Guest Speaker will be CHP/San Diego County RATT Investigator Kraig Palmer, who will be giving an abbreviated presentation of his "Vehicle Hacking - Vehicle Security, and How to Defeat It" class.
The catered lunch will be "Gourmet Tacos and Mexican Fixins" provided by Jose Cicero of Taquizas Jose.
RSVPs will be necessary for this meeting's luncheon portion of the meeting. Only RSVP if you will be attending the luncheon portion of this meeting. July 19, 2018 WSATI Training Meeting / Luncheon
Petersen Automotive Museum - Los Angeles
2018 WSATI Southern Chapter President Jeff Enfield (LASD / TRAP) welcomed everyone to the meeting and a new WSATI venue, the Petersen Automotive Museum, in Los Angeles.
Jeff requested that Sergeant-At-Arms Mike Carnakis (LASD / TRAP) lead the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
Jeff introduced the other Southern Chapter Officers who were in attendance:

Associate Director Jesse Bravo (Irwindale PD/TRAP), Associate Director Rob Midzuno (Nationwide Insurance SIU) and Associate Director Michael Octave (LASD/TRAP) could not attend the meeting.

Mick O'Neill announced that the 2018 WSATI Training Seminar, hosted by the Northern Chapter, will take place October 8-10, 2018, at the Mont Bleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe. He said that information was posted on the WSATI website. Mick also spoke about the upcoming International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) Seminar coming up on August 5-10, 2018 in Pittsburg, PA.
Jeff then introduced the first Guest Speakers, LAPD / TRAP Detective George Molina, and LASD / TRAP Detective Jonathan Elizarraraz. They gave a presentation on Classic Car Theft Investigations, including some interesting case studies. Jeff then introduced the next Guest Speaker, NICB / FEAR Special Agent Lou Koven, who gave a presentation on what FEAR does to prevent stolen vehicles from being exported out of the U.S. He also showed what resources attendees can use utilizing the ISO ClaimSearch database.
Following the presentation, Jeff invited those who purchased luncheon tickets to enjoy their lunch while networking with the others in the room. A catered luncheon was then provided by Drago Ristorante, a member of the famous Drago restaurant family, and located within the Petersen Automotive Museum. This luncheon was definitely enjoyed by the Meeting attendees.
Jeff then opened up the Roundtable Discussion. Webmaster Gary Labb (Santa Ana Police / OCATT [retired]) advised the attendees of the encrypted online networking roster and gave the attendees the password to allow them access to the roster.
Following the Roundtable Discussion, the raffle was conducted by Mick O'Neill, with the help of Mike Carnakis, Johnny Miyasaki, and Melissa Somers. The raffle helps raise money for WSATI funds that assist in putting on future seminars, as well as supporting events such as the San Diego and Orange County ATAC Vehicle Theft Recovery Officer of the Year programs.
There were several new faces that came to the meeting, as well as several "old" members who had not been to the meetings in some time. Thank you all for your attendance.
Jeff announced the next meeting / luncheon would be held on September 20, 2018.
All attendees were invited to tour 3 floors of the Petersen Automotive Museum after the meeting concluded.
